Preparing for the 2025 Session
As you know, I ran for public office to give voice to the conservative values of Idaho District 7 as Senator in the Idaho State Legislature. My voting record during the 2023 and 2024 sessions has accurately represented my values as a principled, conservative legislator. As I have discussed before in this substack, some bills may have sounded good on the surface, but the details revealed something else. But let’s move on…
The State Freedom Caucus Network charter states, “we need patriots who serve in our state capitals to fight federal overreach and stand firm against those – in both parties – who prioritize political power over representing constituents.” I have been proudly standing against federal overreach and have made every attempt to represent my constituents with every vote I cast instead of prioritizing political power, regardless of the cost. Since 2023, I have been a dedicated member of the Idaho Freedom Caucus and I am very thankful for the experience which has been valuable. After much prayer and consideration, I have decided that at this time, being a member of the caucus is not a good fit for me, nor the best use of my time, so I prayerfully decided to resign last week.
Removing myself from the Idaho Freedom Caucus will free up time for me to research and draft important legislation that you, my constituents, and I are passionate about such as property tax relief from school levies, revising the school funding formula, school choice, and protecting our children and the family unit. Additional focus will be placed on a better understanding and strategy of the budgeting process. I plan to add the Joint Finance and Budget Committee (JFAC) to my duties this next session.
The people of Idaho spoke loud and clear in the Primary election and they voted for a more conservative legislature. The Senate has an opportunity to choose a much more conservative Pro-Tem. I am excited to work hard towards this goal! I am focused on working for you and ask that you continue to trust and support me in the decisions I make on your behalf. I believe the 2025 legislative session can be fruitful and I cannot do it without your prayers and support.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Senator Cindy Carlson, District 7
